Perry's bell, our promise: $1 million to Blood Cancer united

A two-year-old should be worried about which crayon to use. Perry Oviedo was worried about staying alive.

One month after her second birthday, Perry was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. A Fort Worth girl, a few weeks past the cake and the candles, handed a fight most adults will never face. Years of treatment followed. Years her family spent in hospitals instead of at dance class, at birthday parties, on the trips other families take for granted.

On April 17, Perry rang the bell. End of treatment. Her mom, her dad, and her older sister stood beside her. She did the thing every family in that fight prays for and too few get to do.

I wanted you to know her name before I told you anything about a check.

Why the Unleashed Brands Foundation donated $200,000 to Blood Cancer United

The Unleashed Brands Foundation gave $200,000 to Blood Cancer United, formerly The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The gift supports the Dare to Dream Project, a pediatric blood cancer initiative built around research, family support, patient education, and advocacy for kids navigating leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers.

That is the headline. Here is what it actually buys.

It buys research aimed at safer, less toxic treatments designed for children, not scaled down from adult medicine. It buys the PedAL trial, a pediatric acute leukemia master study. It buys guidance for parents who got a diagnosis they did not see coming and have no map for what comes next. It buys the quiet things. The phone call that explains a word the doctor used too fast. The reminder that a family is not walking this alone.

A childhood cancer diagnosis changes everything. It changes routines. It changes plans. It changes how a parent thinks about tomorrow. We are in the business of helping kids become life-ready. You cannot do that work and look away from the kids fighting just to see another birthday.

Perry's comeback, in person

The week after Perry rang the bell, we brought her and her family to Orlando for UBCON, our annual conference where franchise owners and brand leaders from across Unleashed Brands come together.

We put Perry on the stage. The full community celebrated her. We told her she was the ultimate comeback kid, and we meant every word. Then we told her one more thing. The next morning, she was going to Magic Kingdom. All of it. The VIP experience, the whole day, on April 21.

I asked her who her favorite princess was. Ariel, she said. She got to meet her.

Here is what I keep coming back to. The families in this fight miss the ordinary celebrations. Disney trips. Normal birthdays. The small ceremonies of a regular childhood. They miss them because they are spending those days in the fight of a lifetime. So when we celebrate a comeback kid, we are not staging a feel-good moment. We are giving back a day that cancer tried to take.

Perry's story is hers alone. But her courage looks like the courage of thousands of kids and families in this same fight. She reminds us why this work matters. She reminds us why hope matters.

A five-year, $1 million commitment to kids fighting blood cancer

The $200,000 is not the whole promise. It is the first part of a five-year, $1 million commitment from the Unleashed Brands Foundation to Blood Cancer United and pediatric blood cancer support.

I want to be clear about why we put a number and a timeline on it. Kids facing adversity deserve more than sympathy. Sympathy fades by the next news cycle. They deserve action that shows up again and again, the kind you can plan a research program around. A one-time gift is a moment. A five-year commitment is a partnership.

Since we launched the Foundation in 2023, the mission has stayed the same: invest in today's kids and tomorrow's leaders. This is what that mission looks like when a real kid needs it.

How you can help kids fighting blood cancer

Comeback stories take all of us. If Perry's story moved you, here are real ways to stand in this fight, whether you are a franchisee, a team member, a guest, or someone who just read this and wants to do something.

Sock It to Cancer. Our Foundation program raises awareness and funding through specially designed socks and community participation, with proceeds helping support the Dare to Dream Project.

Round Up at checkout. Guests can round up purchases at participating Unleashed Brands locations. Small acts, repeated by enough people, move real money.

The Teddy Bear Program. Franchisees, team members, and communities build bears that go to kids facing illness, a reminder that someone cares.

Share the mission. Awareness matters. Sharing a story like Perry's helps another family feel seen.

Every child deserves the chance to become a comeback kid

The fight against pediatric blood cancer is bigger than one donation, one company, or one bell on one April afternoon.

But I watched a little girl ring that bell. I watched her meet Ariel. I watched a family get back a day that cancer tried to steal. That is not abstract to me anymore. It has a name.

We are proud to stand with Blood Cancer United, the Dare to Dream Project, and every family fighting for a brighter tomorrow. Because every child deserves the chance to learn, to play, to grow, and to become the ultimate comeback kid.

The future is bright.

Sock It To Cancer Launched Sept 1, 2025

On September 1st, 2025, the Unleashed Brands Foundation has partnered with Urban Air Adventure Park and Blood Cancer United (formerly The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) to launch the “Sock It to Cancer” campaign during National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. From September 1 to 30, Urban Air will donate 25 cents per pair of limited-edition “Sock It to Cancer” socks sold—both in-park and online—to fuel pediatric blood cancer research, advocacy, and family support services. Proceeds will accelerate global advancements in treatments, drive vital policy improvements, and expand education and outreach for children and families affected by blood cancers. Aligned with its mission to empower at-risk youth, the Foundation has already pledged $1 million over the next five years to the Dare to Dream Project, supporting breakthrough pediatric cancer research and care.

Michael Browning Jr., CEO and Co-Founder of the Foundation, emphasizes that each sock sold transforms a simple act of play into a tangible symbol of hope for families facing their toughest battles. The campaign also complements Urban Air’s ongoing “Round Up for Charity” program, giving guests meaningful ways to contribute while enjoying fun experiences.

Foundation Pledges $1 million To Fight Childhood cancer

On May 28th, 2025, the Unleashed Brands Foundation has pledged $1 million to the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society & Dare to Dream Project, a groundbreaking initiative focused on transforming treatment for children with blood #cancers. Each year, nearly 15,000 #kids in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer—#leukemia and #lymphoma making up about 40% of those cases. While survival rates have improved, many children still face lifelong side effects from outdated treatments. The Dare to Dream Project aims to create more effective therapies and support services tailored for kids. Our #donation will help fund this critical work, including the innovative Clinical Trials that matches children to personalized treatments. We’re honored to join LLS in this mission to ensure every child not only survives but thrives. #WeDareToDream4Kids #GiveForMoreLife

Why Michael Created the Unleashed Brands Foundation

At the heart of Unleashed Brands is a belief that business can—and should—do more than drive profit.

That belief led Michael to create the Unleashed Brands Foundation—a platform designed to give back to communities across the country by empowering franchisees to make a meaningful impact where they live and serve. Our mission is simple yet profound: to help kids learn, play, and grow through fun, engaging, and inspiring experiences—even in life’s toughest moments.

Giving Kids the Power to Dream Again

We launched the Foundation because we saw firsthand how many children face circumstances that rob them of joy, confidence, and opportunity. Whether it’s a life-threatening illness, the foster care system, or the weight of poverty—too many kids are forced to grow up without spaces that make them feel seen, valued, and free.

When a child walks into one of our venues, they should feel like they matter. They should feel like their future is full of possibility. That’s the experience I want every kid to have—not just in our parks, gyms, and centers, but through every event, every initiative, and every partnership we build through this Foundation.

Empowering Franchisees to Make an Impact

Our franchisees have a heart to help. But we’ve also learned that many don't always know where to start.

That’s why we created the Foundation—not only to raise funds and host events, but to provide our franchise owners with the tools, resources, and opportunities to give back. Whether it’s partnering with HopeKids to give families a day away from the medical world, or dreaming big about giving every foster child in America a birthday party—we are inviting franchisees to lead the charge in their local communities.

Because when we come together—when business owners, families, and team members unite around a shared purpose—we can create something far greater than any of us could do alone.

A Movement Bigger Than Us

We’re just getting started. Our hopes are big:

  • To provide joy-filled birthdays to children in foster care

  • To create moments of relief and fun for kids battling illness

  • To offer belonging to those who feel forgotten

  • To be one of the largest donors funding childhood cancer research

This is more than charity. It’s a movement to rewrite stories, restore confidence, and reshape futures.

As Winston Churchill once said:
“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

Join us in building a life worth giving.
Join us in impacting the lives of every kid.
